Child & Youth Workers (or equivalent)

Calling all Child & Youth Workers (or equivalent)!  We’re expanding our residential treatment homes and in this exciting time, we’re growing our Child & Youth Worker team and we want you!!  We’re looking for Child & Youth Workers to work evenings, weekends, and nights on a rotational schedule working in our newly renovated residence that is on-site at our treatment school, Applewood Academy.  Your base schedule will be provided to you well in advance and additional shifts will be provided each month so you’ll know exactly how many hours you’ll be working. Rate of pay is based on your level of education and professional experience starting at $20.00 per hour.  You’ll be supporting children between the ages of 6-18 in the achievement of their individual treatment goals. Training allowances and clinical support are also available. It is our intention to build strong staff who enjoy working with our youth – even on the most chaotic of days.

Math & Science Tutor

Applewood Academy is a therapeutic boarding school that provides individualized therapeutic and academic support for our students. Applewood is looking for a Mathematics and Science tutor who has a thorough understanding of the grade 11 and 12 Mathematics and Science curriculum and has the ability to successfully support our students in their learning journey. Our school day runs Monday to Friday from 9:00 am – 2:45 pm, we are looking for a tutor that can support our students consistently 2 days a week ( specific times are flexible within the school day hours) opportunities for additional hours Monday – Thursday 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm may also be available depending on our student population.   

Tutoring Responsibilities:

  • Manage tutoring sessions with multiple students (simultaneously) in your area of expertise.
  • Provide feedback to teachers and students.
  • Create an engaging learning environment, and enhance student confidence and interest in learning.

We are looking for: 

  • Ontario Certified Teacher is preferred
  • Candidates in Teachers College or university designation towards education.
  • Previous experience working with students with special needs is an asset.
  • Excellent English oral and written skills.
  • Ability to adapt to individual student needs and learning styles.
  • A passion to help students reach their potential.
  • Exceptionally organized 
  • Ability to teach groups of 2-3 students.

Residential Program Supervisor

Applewood Academy is seeking a qualified individual for our Residential Program Supervisor position to work with our diverse residential treatment team. As a Residential  Program Supervisor, you will be assigned to manage two + programs supporting our Child & Youth Workers along with the youth residing in these programs ranging from 6-18 yrs of age and assist them in meeting their individual treatment goals

As a Residential Program Supervisor, your schedule may include any combination of evenings / nights, weekends, on-call as determined by the Program Coordinator / designate in an effort to best support our Child & Youth Workers. Tasks include management of daily routines, implementing treatment plans and creating schedules to meet the needs of our youth. As the successful candidate some of your responsibilities will include :

  • Provide general support to our Child &Youth Workers while following our company’s policy & procedures.
  • Review admission / discharge processes, documentation, child management issues and strategies. 
  • Set up schedules for our Child & Youth Workers. 
  • Attend all team meetings as requested by the Program Coordinator.
  • Be available to work shifts as needed in our programs.
  • Complete home inspections.
  • Attend standard home visits and complete required documentation.
  • Review and edit all documentation by our Child & Youth Workers.
  • Continue personal and ongoing training to further develop knowledge and skills in our workplace.
  • Maintain confidentiality, dress code, professionalism when representing Applewood Academy.
  • Ensure updates are provided to the team in a timely manner.


  • University degree and / or college diploma Social Services or Human Services field required.
  • Minimum 5-10 years experience in the field specifically relating to residential treatment.
  • Strong leadership with experience in motivating staff to achieve results.
  • Ability to deal with difficult or sensitive situations.
  • Exceptional problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Teacher Position

Applewood Academy is a specialized private therapeutic boarding school looking for a dynamic educator who will enhance our learning environment and foster a love of learning within our student community. Applewood’s High School program typically has an enrolment of between 12 and 18 students, each working on individualized credits towards their OSSD. Our small program size allows for increased safety measures both within the school and the residential settings, as well as, a unique opportunity for our teachers to work one on one with our students and collaboratively with our skilled team members.

Applewood Academy for Progressive Learning is looking to hire a permanent full-time Ontario Certified Teacher with Intermediate/Senior qualifications. This Teacher will work within our High School Program for the 2021-2022 school year starting August 31, 2021 (preference will be given to teachers with special education and mathematics qualifications).

Applewood Academy’s Certified Teacher would be responsible for facilitating Independent Learning Courses covering several curriculum areas while overseeing the overall group education programming. This Teacher would work as part of an interdisciplinary team including Child and Youth Workers, Ontario Certified Teachers, Early Childhood Educators, Clinicians, and a Psychiatrist to facilitate a positive learning environment and individualized programming for all Applewood students.


  • Ontario College of Teachers certification required.
  • Intermediate/Senior Qualifications (Preference given to Special Education and Mathematics qualifications).
  • Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal.
  • Experience with children with special needs is strongly recommended.
  • Demonstrates a deep understanding of special education and works comfortably with students ranging in age from 14-18.
  • Ability to work collaboratively on a team, as well as an ability to take initiative and work independently, are assets
  • Current Ontario driver’s license
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR – level C certification (can be obtained upon hire within a designated period)
  • Clearance from a Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector check and Child Welfare

Overnight Care Worker

If you are a night owl we have a great fit for you! We have an immediate need for an Overnight Care Worker (10pm to 9am) in our residential treatment homes working a weekly rotation. This position includes a list of household tasks and reporting pieces to be completed nightly such as:

– Operation of running the program and its nightly needs such as prepping meals, completing laundry and other housekeeping duties. 

– Providing support as needed in the event of a crisis or unexpected event and implementing TCI skills while following the agency’s processes. Our agency will train all employees in TCI.

– Medication administration as directed by the youth’s physician and ensure all policies and processes are followed at all times.  

– Will provide adequate communication summarizing what occurred and significant events / information involving each youth prior to leaving shift.

– If the required nightly tasks have been completed to meet the standard of the program and the youth are settled, the Overnight Care Worker may catch some shut eye too prior to getting the youth up and ready for their morning routine.
