Hello, my name is Marisa but everyone here at Applewood Academy calls me Mars. I have the pleasure of providing academic and therapeutic support primarily for the high school students enrolled in the program.
I graduated from the University of Guelph in 2012 with a degree in Criminal Justice & Public Policy, minoring in Psychology. After graduation, I did some travelling and then landed a job at an after-school program where I was introduced to the social services field. In 2014, I attended St. Lawrence College where I received my Child and Youth Worker diploma. My college experience and the couple years following graduation provided a lot of volunteer and job opportunities in residential, community, and educational settings.
While I gained valuable experience, I hadn’t found an organization that I was passionate about working for. So in 2018, I decided I needed a reset. I fulfilled my dream of a solo backpacking trip across Europe and then went back to college to study law. Fast forward to 2020 and the job posting at Applewood Academy randomly popped up on my social media page. I joined the team and have been very glad that I did!
When I am not working, you can find me with my nose in a book, filling up my passport with stamps, or simply daydreaming of my next adventure.
Though I am newer to the team, Applewood Academy is an organization that I have become passionate working for. I greatly value education so it has been amazing to work alongside the rest of the team to empower youth with achieving academic success.
I look forward to supporting your child with their journey, encouraging and celebrating their accomplishments along the way.
