Hello, my name is Marissa Norton and I currently have the pleasure of working with the Applewood Academy team as their Principal. At Applewood, we take a hands-on team approach to learning and I am fortunate to be able to be actively involved in Applewood’s daily programming, interacting on a meaningful level with our students.
I graduated from York University with an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Kinesiology and Health Sciences in 2001; however, I knew that my educational journey was not complete. I returned to school in 2003 and completed my Bachelor of Education at Queens University, specializing in Intermediate/Senior Mathematics and Physical and Health Education. I have spent the last thirteen years expanding my experience within the education field, teaching both within the mainstream school system as well as, within alternative settings. I have spent this time filling my tool box with amazing strategies that coincide with my “outside the box” thinking. In actuality, I began my teaching career within Applewood’s elementary program and have continued to be drawn back to the dynamic and exciting challenges involved in developing an exceptional learning experience for the students at Applewood. I have held many hats over the past 13 years, Teacher, Academic Consultant, and now Principal. I pride myself on my passion to create an environment in which students can thrive and consistently achieve their individual academic and life goals.
Originally from Toronto, my family and I have settled within the Belleville area and are thoroughly enjoying the small town feel and sense of community that Belleville provides us.
I look forward to meeting my future Applewood students and embarking with them on their journey to a life long love of learning.
Please feel free to make an appointment to visit our High School and Elementary programs at Applewood to see examples of student’s work and practical projects and meet the team that works with our students.
